Time Magazine makes a funny.

From the article on the closing of Bennigan’s:

“[Bennigan’s] signature sandwich, the Monte Cristo, was a surgeon general’s worst nightmare: ‘A Delicious combination of ham and turkey, plus Swiss and American cheese on wheat bread. Lightly batter and friend until golden. Dusted with powdered sugar and served with red raspberry preserves for dipping.’ You have to wonder: Why wheat bread?”

But damn they’re heart attack good.

  1. You know, Bennigan’s (and their sister company, Steak and Ale) just shuttered ALL their restaurants last week. Not sure if that’s why Time had the article, but I must say that going to Bennigan’s was a big part of my post-college dating.

  2. The article was, indeed, about Bennigan’s closing. It was also snarkier than I have come to expect from Time but the snark was welcome.
    Seriously, why the wheat bread?
